Abstract As part of its response to the World Health Organization’s Health Promoting Schools program,in 1999 the Chinese University of Hong Kong developed and implemented a certification program for health and educational professionals. The objective of the certification program is to train educators to design and implement health education in schools and to promote health in the schools and home environment. The program includes five modules:Principles of Health Education and Health Promotion;Understanding Common Health and Social Problems Encountered by the School Children;Investigating Health Information,Planning and Evaluating Health Promotion and Health Education;Developing Competence in Health Education and Health Promotion;and Protocol Developmental and Field Work. In the nine years since its inception,the certification program has expanded into undergrad-uate and graduate degree programs in health education and promotion.
