Abstract Objective To explore the application value of artificial intelligence(AI)chatbots in home monitoring of neonatal jaundice. Methods By using random number table method, 700 jaundice newborns born in the Department of Obstetrics, Chongqing Maternal and Child Health Hospital from November 2021 to March 2022 were randomly divided into control group and observation group , with 350 cases in each group. The guardians of the control group received routine education, while the guardians of the observation group received routine education and AI chatbot intervention. The follow-up duration was for one month. The situation of guardians(jaundice knowledge, emotional state, and nursing satisfaction)and the situation of newborns(jaundice onset time, jaundice resolution time, incidence of secondary jaundice hospitalization, and growth and development)were compared. The word cloud analysis was conducted on WeChat group chat content. Results One month after intervention, compared with the guardians of the control group, those in the observation group had higher scores in various items of the jaundice knowledge survey questionnaire, lower scores in the depression self-assessment scale and anxiety self-assessment scale, and higher nursing satisfaction scores(all P<0.05). Compared with the newborns of the control group, those in the observation group had a shorter jaundice resolution time, a lower incidence of secondary jaundice hospitalization, and higher scores in body mass, intellectual development index, and motor development index one month after intervention(all P<0.05). WeChat group chat content included hot topics such as appointment, onset time of jaundice, jaundice resolution time, jaundice symptoms, etc. Conclusion In home monitoring of neonatal jaundice, AI chatbots can significantly improve the guardians’ understanding of jaundice, promote the jaundice resolution and neonatal growth, reduce guardians’ adverse emotions, improve satisfaction, and grasp the concerns of guardians through WeChat groups.
