Abstract Objective To develop the mobile phone addiction scale for undergraduate students，and investigate the status of mobile phone addiction of undergraduate students. Methods The preliminary scale of mobile phone addiction for undergraduate students was designed through literature review，semi-structured interview and expert consultation，and the ultimate scale was formed using statistical analysis. Results The mobile phone addiction scale for undergraduate students was composed of compulsive use，withdrawal reaction，relationship involvement，interpersonal alienation，and unfavorable physical and mental health，and the scale enjoyed sound theoretical conception and parameters of reliability and validity. Compulsive use and withdrawal reaction were the core symptoms of the scale，which were commonly found both in boys and girls. However，relationship involvement，interpersonal alienation，and unfavorable physical and mental health belonged to the subsidiary symptoms，which were more obvious in girls than in boys. Conclusion The designed scale may be an efficient tool for the investigation of mobile phone addiction of undergraduate students.
