Abstract Single-processing model and dual-processing model can not explain some special memory phenomena about the relationship between item memory and source memory. However，a series of recently emerging bundling theoretical models make a reasonable explanation for these phenomena. Bundling theoretical models have discovered that it is necessary to integrate item memory and source memory to form a complete memory of the event. Physiological basis of the binding relationship between item memory and source memory is mainly related to medial temporal lobe—the hippocampus and perirhinal cortex. Furthermore，the clinical studies support these findings. In future，various technologies should be integrated to separate specific brain regions in different stages of memory，and a comprehensive view should be adopted to discuss the relationship between item memory and source memory more deeply.
