Influence of face trustworthiness on decision-making of responders in the ultimatum game

AbstractObjective To investigate the influence of face trustworthiness on decision-making of responders in the ultimatum game. Methods Sixty college students were randomly divided into two groups for affinity ultimatum game and disaffinity ultimatum game,respectively,with 30 students in each group. The behavioral experiment method was employed. Facegen Modeller software 3.3 was utilized to obtain face images with different degree of trustworthiness. Cross-section design of social distance(affinity or disaffinity),face trustworthiness(trust or mistrust)and fairness of proposal(fairness or unfairness)was adopted. E-prime 1.0 software was used to program the improved version of ultimatum game experiments paradigm. Data were collected for statistical analysis. Results Face trustworthiness and social distance had a significant impact on decision-making of individuals in the ultimatum game. Conclusion Face trustworthiness is an important factor for decision-making of individuals in the ultimatum game,and the affinity-disaffinity relationship between game objects and respondents is one of the important influencing factors for making rational decisions.
