Abstract:Objective To explore the relationship between acculturation stress and loneliness in international students and its mechanism. Methods A total of 243 international students from 10 universities in Shandong province were investigated with acculturative stress scale, coping style scale, UCLA loneliness scale, and Connor-Davidson resilience scale. Results Loneliness was significantly positively correlated with acculturation stress and denial coping, but negatively correlated with resilience. Denial coping was significantly positively correlated with acculturation stress. The relationship between acculturation stress and loneliness was partly mediated by denial coping. Resilience moderated the relationship between acculturation stress and loneliness. Conclusion The acculturation stress of international students in China affects their loneliness. Reducing denial coping and cultivating resilience can effectively reduce their loneliness level.
