| Overweight and obesity in children and adolescents with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder—a Meta analysis |

Abstract Objective To analyse the prevalence of overweight and obesity in children and adolescents with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder，and investigate its difference with normal individuals. Methods The database of Wanfang，VIP，CNKI，CBM，PubMed，ISI Web of Knowledge and Medline were utilized to search the literature with the established criteria. The included literature was evaluated by the cross-section study quality assessment criteria recommended by Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality（AHRQ），and was analysed with Rev-Man 5.1 software. Results With the number of overweight as an outcome indicator，I2 = 87%，OR = 2.00，95%CI 1.05 - 3.83，P = 0.04，and the prevalence of overweight in children and adolescents with ADHD was higher than that in normal ones. With the number of obesity as an outcome indicator and quantitative analysis of the 10 included literature，I2 = 87%，OR = 1.69，95%CI 1.00 - 2.84，P = 0.05，and there was no significant difference in the prevalence of obesity between children and adolescents with ADHD and normal individuals. With the number of obesity and overweight as outcome indicator and stratification by different ADHD types，there was no significant difference in the prevalence of obesity and overweight between children and adolescents with ADHD of hyperactivity/impulsion type and normal individuals（I2 = 9%，OR = 0.95，95%CI 0.58 - 1.57，P = 0.85），and there were significant differences in the prevalence of obesity and overweight between children and adolescents with ADHD of attention disorder type and combination type and normal individuals（OR = 2.28，95%CI 1.67 - 3.12，P ＜ 0.000 01；OR = 1.71，95%CI 1.21 - 2.41，P = 0.002）. Conclusion The prevalence of overweight in children and adolescents with ADHD is higher than that in normal individuals，while there is no significant difference in the prevalence of obesity between them. The prevalence of overweight and obesity in ADHD of attention disorder type and combination type，the prevalence of overweight in male ADHD patients and that of ADHD patients selected from overall population are higher than that of normal individuals without ADHD.
