Abstract Objective To explore the relationship between social exclusion and adolescents’ suicidal ideation and its mechanism of action. Methods This study was conducted on 612 adolescents using the social exclusion scale, core self-esteem scale, teacher support scale, and suicide intention scale. Multiple linear regression was used to test the mediating and moderating effects, and the Bootstrap method was used to estimate the confidence interval. Results Social exclusion had a positively predictive effect on suicidal ideation. Core self-esteem partially mediated the relationship between social exclusion and suicidal ideation. Teacher support moderated the the first half and direct path of the mediating effect of this mediated model. Conclusion Social exclusion can lead to
suicidal ideation in adolescents, and high level of teacher support can effectively mitigate the negative effects of social exclusion.
