Abstract Gangliosides(GA), containing salivated glycosphingolipids(GSLs), abundant in the nervous system, are major molecular determinants on the surfaces of nerve cells. It is not only involved in the development of the nervous system and higher nervous activities, such as learning and memory, but also highly responsible for some diseases caused by bacteria, viruses, autoimmunity and other factors. Combined with recent years of researches, this paper reviews the changes in ganglioside expression during neural development and the roles in maintaining normal life activities.
