Abstract:Objective To investigate the impact of inter-parental conflict on the relationship between children and fathers in divorced families, and explore the roles of father-child relationship and mother-child relationship before divorce. Methods A survey was conducted on 212 adult individuals from divorced families by using the children’s perception of inter-parental conflict scale and parent-child cohesion scale, and 192 valid questionnaires were obtained. The relevant data were statistically analyzed. Results The inter-parental conflict negatively impacted on the father-child relationship in divorced families. The relationship between fathers and children before divorce fully mediated the impact of inter-parental conflict on the father-child relationship, and the mother-child relationship before divorce had negative moderation in the impact. Conclusion The father-child relationship in divorced families is affected by inter-parental conflict and the initial father-child relationship before divorce. Moreover, the better relationship between children and mothers, the more significant influence of inter-parental conflict on father-child relationship before divorce.
