Abstract:There are mainly two members of nonapeptide in human beings:oxytocin and vasopressin. Recently, more and more attention has been focused on the associations of nonapeptide with social behavior and autism. In studies of mammals, oxytocin shows an influence on maternal behaviors, and vasopressin may induce pair bonding behaviors in some kinds of male mammals. As in humans, oxytocin increases trust and empathy, and reduces social anxiety, while there is little data to suggest that the absence of vasopressin is associated with social deficits. The correlation between nonapeptide and autism has been reported by some researchers, and the prospect for possible treatment of autism has also been proposed. The research progress of associations of nonapeptide with social behavior and autism is reviewed in this paper.
