Application of quality control circle to bachelor students' clinical practice in pediatric dentistry

Abstract：Objective To investigate the significance of quality control circle (QCC) in bachelor students' clinical practice in pediatric dentistry. Methods A total of 68 students majoring in dentistry in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry, School of Stomatology, Air Force Medical University, from June 2018 to April 2020 were selected. Among them, 33 students from June 2018 to April 2019 served as the control group and 35 students from June 2019 to April 2020 were selected as the experimental group. The control group performed their clinical practice in normal method, and the experimental group performed their clinical practice in QCC model. The results of theoretical examination and practical examination, and the satisfaction of teaching content, achievement during clinical practice, environment of clinical practice, management of clinical practice, quality of teachers, and the way of examination were all compared between the two groups. Results The scores of theoretical examination and practical examination in the experimental group were 85.15±3.77 and 84.33±4.69 respectively, which were significantly higher than 76.31±5.14 and 76.74±5.66 in the control group (P<0.05). The satisfaction of teaching content, achievement during clinical practice, and total scores of satisfaction were significantly higher in the experimental group (P<0.05). Conclusion QCC model can effectively improve the quality of bachelor students' clinical practice in pediatric dentistry.
