Objective To investigate the traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) etiology of tic disorders(TD) and perinatal risk factors. Methods Based on the TCM congenital factors and the theory of “Waixiang Neigan”, the etiology of perinatal related TD was analyzed. A total of 128 patients with TD were enrolled in Xinhua Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine from July 2015 to January 2016. And then the perinatal risk factors were analyzed and compared with those of healthy children. Results Malnutrition in the perinatal period of mothers was a risk factor for TD. The perinatal malnutrition of TD mothers was 9.61 times higher than that of the balanced nutrition group. The value of 90%CI was 1.20-76.97. Conclusion The congenital factors related to perinatal abnormalities are important etiologies of TD.
