Objective To study the effects of family cohesion and adaptability, and parenting style on children's social skills and its mechanism. Methods A total of 340 children, aged 3-6 years, were investigated by family adaptability and cohesion evaluation scales (FACES), parenting style questionnaire, and preschooler's social skills scale (PSSS). Results Both the family cohesion and adaptability and parenting style were significantly related to children's social skills. With changing of age, family cohesion and adaptability and parenting style could significantly predict children's social skills. Family cohesion and adaptability not only directly influenced children's social skills, but also indirectly influence children's social skills through parenting style. Conclusion Parenting style plays a mediating role in the effects of family cohesion and adaptability on children's social skills.
