Vitamin D, a fat-soluble vitamin, is necessary for the human body. It exists in many forms in the human body, and calcitriol is the main active form. The combination of vitamin D and vitamin D receptor(VDR)plays an important role in regulating calcium and phosphorus metabolism, immune response, cell differentiation, and apoptosis in the body. VDRs, derived from the steroid superfamily, are also expressed on the placenta, and can regulate genes related to the differentiation and proliferation of trophoblasts. The polymorphism of the VDR gene is related to the structure and function of the VDR, and indirectly affects the metabolism of vitamin D. Vitamin D deficiency is closely related to preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, fetal growth restriction, and pelvic floor function. This article reviews the relationship between vitamin D and its receptors and obstetric complications and comorbidities.
