Abstract:Impairments in social and communicative functioning and repetitive behaviors are typical features of autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Early catching sight of and intervention of high risk infants and toddlers with ASD can achieve efficient outcomes. Thus, familiarity with clinical assessment instruments, early symptoms, and development trajectories of infants and toddlers with ASD are essential. This paper reviews the current researches from two aspects, that is, clinical screening and basic research (including eye gazing, sensory processing, social smiling, imitation, and repetitive behaviors), to provide an empirical guide for issues and concerns related to early intervention of ASD in infants and toddlers.
