Relationship between dispositional flow and internet gaming disorder among university students: chain mediated effects of meaning in life and life satisfaction |

Abstract Objective To explore the relationship between dispositional flow and internet gaming disorder among university students, and investigate mediated effects of meaning in life and life satisfaction. Methods By using convenient sampling method, 2 770 university students from a certain university in Guangzhou were selected. They accomplished short dispositional flow scale, meaning in life questionnaire, life satisfaction scale, and internet gaming disorder questionnaire. The relations among the variables and possible moderated mediating relationships were analyzed. Results Dispositional flow, meaning in life, and life satisfaction were mutually significantly positively correlated. Dispositional flow, meaning in life, and life satisfaction were significantly negatively correlated with internet gaming disorder. The direct effect of dispositional flow on internet gaming disorder was significant, and it could also act on internet gaming disorder through independent mediating pathway of meaning in life or life satisfaction and the chain mediating effect of meaning in life and life satisfaction. Conclusion Dispositional flow reduces the risk of internet gaming disorder of university students through direct effects or chain mediating effect of life meaning and life satisfaction.
