Abstract:Objective To explore the relations between father involvement and adolescent’s life satisfaction, and investigate the mediating roles of co-parenting and father-child attachment. Methods A total of 325 adolescents aged from 10 to 16 years and their parents completed inventory of father involvement, co-parenting relationship scale, father-child attachment questionnaire, and adolescents’ life satisfaction scale. The relations between father involvement and adolescent’s life satisfaction were analyzed and mediation effect testing was conducted. Results Father involvement, co-parenting, father-child attachment, and adolescent’s life satisfaction were positively correlated with each other. Father involvement did not have significant direct effect on the adolescent’s life satisfaction. Father involvement exerted indirect effects on adolescent’s life satisfaction not only through the mediating effect of co-parenting and father-child attachment separately, but also through the chain mediating effect of them. Conclusion Co-parenting and father-child attachment exert multiple mediating effects on the relationship between father involvement and the adolescent’s life satisfaction.
