Abstract:Objective To explore relationship between online deviant behaviors and related psychological variables about Chinese students with meta-analytical approach. Methods By searching and filtrating, a total of 24 studies (n=12 743) were suitable for the meta-analysis, with 33 independent research samples. Results There were obvious gender differences in online deviant behaviors among Chinese student groups. Boys were more likely to show online deviant behaviors than girls. The results also provided that online deviant behaviors had a negative significant relationship with social support and moral identity(P<0.05), and a positive significant effect on moral evasion(P<0.05). The moderating effect test found that the type of subjects and questionnair tools had moderating effects on gender differences in online deviant behaviors. There was no publication bias in the research results. Conclusion Social support, moral identity, and moral evasion may be important variables to predict individual online deviant behaviors, which are worthy of further study.
